RELOCATION FAQs

When will EPL close?

EPL already closed to the public in March of 2020 due to the State’s stay at home order.  The café will not reopen in the current location.  The lease was due for renewal in July and Columbus Humane will have the lease through the end of June 2020.

What will happen to EPL staff?

Columbus Humane retained all staff during the COVID-19 pandemic and intends to continue to do so, including EPL staff.  All EPL positions will be secured through the end of June at a minimum.  If a new location is not secured before the end of June, EPL staff will be considered to fill vacant positions elsewhere within the organization.

I have a gift card/gift certificate/Groupon pass to visit Eat Purr Love. Now what?

All gift cards, certificates and Groupon passes will be honored in the event we reopen in a new space. In the meantime, the expiration dates on Groupon passes will be extended.

Is EPL closing this location due to COVID-19?

Prior to pandemic, Columbus Humane was actively looking for ways to increase profitability for the EPL cat café.  We identified that lack of parking, area foot traffic and an inability to secure a food license in the current location as significant barriers to increasing profits.  Because we had to shut down the location due to the  COVID-19 stay at home order, we did not have an opportunity to trial other profit-driving initiatives at this location.  For those reasons, our Board opted not to renew the lease in this location.

EPL provided an alternative adoption space for adult, senior and harder to adopt kitties. What does EPL's closure mean for that cat population at Columbus Humane?

Columbus Humane will continue to provide support and find homes for cats that would have otherwise been candidates for Eat Purr Love. In fact, Columbus Humane has a community cat room that can house multiple cats at a time as well as three cat "pods" where cats are housed individually in multi-level spaces that allow kitties to be social or take a break by perching out of sight.

Will EPL's web store stay open?

Yes! This is a great way to continue to support Eat Purr Love and Columbus Humane.

Which areas/locations is Columbus Humane considering for EPL’s relocation?

We are open to a variety of locations provided that they meet the following criteria among others:

·       Ability for us to provide a high quality of life for cats housed there

·       High foot traffic neighborhood/community

·       Plenty of available parking

·       Ability to accommodate separate entrances for access to café and cats (which enables us to apply for a food license)

·       Ability to accommodate private parties and events of 25 people

·       Large enough to accommodate café, retail offering, and lounge for cats with natural lighting

I know of the purr-fect location!  Who should I contact?

 I’m sad.  I don’t want EPL to close/move.

We’ve made so many great friends and our cats have found wonderful adopters at EPL.  We intend to keep them!  This isn’t goodbye.  You can stay connected with us on social media and you can join our mailing list to be sure you’re current with updates.
