What is a cat cafe?
Part cafe, part adoption center – a cat cafe brings a homey vibe (and delicious local coffee, tea and locally made baked goods) to a group of rescued cats who just want to be pet or played with. (And maybe convince you to take them home with you in the process.)
Where are the cats from?
We’re excited to play host to adoptable cats from the Columbus Humane, which has been advancing Animal Welfare since 1883.
How many cats do you have?
At any one time, we have about a dozen cats roaming the café. Since an Eat, Purr, Love cat is adopted, on average, every two days, it’s a constantly rotating group. Each cat is carefully chosen based on its temperament around people and other cats. To keep the kitties from becoming stressed, there are human-free zones and mandated “cat nap” times.
Why come to a cat café?
Outside of the obvious fun factor, Eat, Purr, Love brings lots of other benefits, too. If you’re looking to adopt, a cat café provides a relaxing and home-like environment in which to meet some new options. Maybe you love cats but can’t have them in your home (due to a family member’s allergies, etc.). We bring cat lovers and lovable cats together.
Why is there a cover fee?
Our $10/hour cover charge allows us to provide a cozy environment and a unique experience for cat lovers while sustaining a stimulating and comfortable home for lovable homeless cats until they are adopted. A $5/hour cover charge applies for children 5 and under.
Are kids allowed?
Children must be accompanied by an adult; younger children MUST BE MONITORED BY THAT ADULT AT ALL TIMES. Running and yelling are not allowed, as it scares the cats and is very disruptive to our other guests. Cat Cafes are NOT Play Cafes. We want you to have a nice experience with the children that you bring with you. We cannot watch for your children while you are distracted by other things during your visit. It is our goal to maintain a quiet and calm environment at Eat, Purr, Love Cat Cafe.
How can I get involved?
We aren’t hiring at this time, but you can support us by liking our Facebook page and following us on Instagram and Twitter. If you’d like to volunteer with Columbus Humane (and maybe even meet some cats prior to their Cat Cafe debuts!), they’d love to hear from you. Please visit: http://www.columbushumane.org/i-want-to-help/volunteer for further details on volunteering with Columbus Humane.
How are you able to serve food with cats in the building?
All food is prepared and prepackaged at the off-site Pattycake Vegan Bakery. It can be brought into the “cat lounge” once it has been purchased. You can also bring your own food and beverages into the lounge (but please remember, no sharing with the cats).
Can I bring my own cat to the cafe?
No – your cat will not share the same enthusiasm you have for coming to a cat cafe.
Why aren’t there kittens at the café?
We love kittens, but luckily, they get adopted quickly. We focus on adult cats to make sure they get plenty of love and support, too.
All cats residing at Eat, Purr, Love are adult cats and have come to us from Columbus Humane. They have been spayed or neutered and have received preventative medical procedures by Columbus Humane, such as vaccines, prior to arriving at the cat cafe. The cats are chosen by Columbus Humane staff and volunteers based on their personalities to ensure that they will be happy in a cat cafe environment.
Additional information and photos for the cat cafe cats are available on the Columbus Humane website. You can also check out the other wonderful cats and kittens available for adoption there as well.
We facilitate adoptions at the cat cafe using much of the same adoption screening application forms and process used by Columbus Humane. Once an adoption application is approved, we schedule pick up for the following Monday or Tuesday.
All cats must go home in a plastic or soft sided cat carrier. All adoption fees and donations associated with the adoption are made by cash or card.
Please note that each week, we typically adopt out several cats and welcome new cats in their place, and this list may not be immediately updated. If you are interested in receiving further information on any of the cats in our clowder or if would like to confirm that a particular cat is available for adoption, please contact us at info@EatPurrLoveCatCafe.com or (614) 852-3521.
Thank you for considering adopting one of our adorable cat cafe cats!
Columbus Humane and many other local rescue organizations have adorable and adoptable cats and kittens that are currently waiting for Forever Families to make a love connection with them.
Our cats are always planning their next party. Check the event calendar for one of these fun event sessions.
Are you looking to host an event in our space for a birthday, shower, or fun team builder? Email us at email@example.com for more information. We do allow free-of-charge access for cat rescue groups to utilize for programs like volunteer recruitment and orientation, fundraisers and cat educational workshops. We will also open the cat cafe for groups that would benefit from the therapeutic results of spending time with purring, affectionate cats! (If you are interested, please contact us at: Info@eatpurrlovecatcafe.com for further details).
