How it works

Cat lovers. Coffee. Bakery sweets. Board games. A good book. Oh, and basically the friendliest cats in town. Are you purring yet?

The basics: Reservations are suggested, but walk-ins can sometimes be accommodated. Your $10/hour “Cat Lounge” fee helps cover the cost of caring for our feline foster family members. Please arrive 10-15 minutes early to review the “rules” and sign a waiver, plus to order any refreshments you’d like. (More on that in the FAQs.)

Looking for a new cat to call part of your family? Eat, Purr, Love is the perfect place to meet. Through our partnership with the Capital Area Humane Society, all of our cats can be adopted directly through the Cat Café. (And maybe we’re biased, but we think meeting at Eat, Purr, Love is the best way to start a life-long kitty-cat bond.)

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a cat cafe?
Part cafe, part adoption center – a cat cafe brings a homey vibe (and delicious local coffee, tea and locally made baked goods) to a group of rescued cats who just want to be pet or played with. (And maybe convince you to take them home with you in the process.)
Where are the cats from?
We’re excited to play host to adoptable cats from the Capital Area Humane Society, which has been serving the area since 1883. A portion of Eat, Purr, Love’s profits are donated to the CAHS.

How many cats do you have?

At any one time, we have about a dozen cats roaming the café. Since an Eat, Purr, Love cat is adopted, on average, every two days, it’s a constantly rotating group. Each cat is carefully chosen based on its temperament around people and other cats. To keep the kitties from becoming stressed, there are human-free zones and mandated “cat nap” times.

Why come to a cat café?

Outside of the obvious fun factor, Eat, Purr, Love brings lots of other benefits, too. If you’re looking to adopt, a cat café provides a relaxing and home-like environment in which to meet some new options. Maybe you love cats but can’t them in your home (due to a family member’s allergies, etc.). We bring cat lovers and lovable cats together.

Why is there a cover fee?

Our $10/hour (per person age 13+) cover charge allows us to provide a cozy environment and a unique experience for cat lovers while sustaining a stimulating and comfortable home for lovable homeless cats until they are adopted. A $5/hour cover charge applies for children 12 and under.

Are kids allowed?

Children must be accompanied by an adult; children under 12 must be monitored by that adult at all times. Running and yelling are not allowed, as it scares the cats.

How can I get involved?
We aren’t hiring at this time, but you can support us by liking our Facebook page and following us on Instagram and Twitter. If you’d like to volunteer with the Capital Area Humane Society (and maybe even meet some cats prior to their Cat Cafe debuts!), they’d love to hear from you. More info here.

How are you able to serve food with cats in the building?
All food is prepared and prepackaged at the off-site Pattycake Vegan Bakery. It can be brought into the “cat lounge” once it has been purchased. You can also bring your own food and beverages into the lounge (but please remember, no sharing with the cats). Preview our menu here.

Can I bring my own cat to the cafe?
No – your cat will not share the same enthusiasm you have for coming to a cat cafe.

Why aren’t there kittens at the café?
We love kittens, but luckily, they get adopted quickly. We focus on adult cats to make sure they get plenty of love and support, too.

We’ve got some pretty cool cats hanging out with us lately…literally. Here are a few who are up for adoption. Please note that each week, we typically adopt out several cats and welcome new cats in their place, and this list may not be immediately updated.
If you are interested in receiving further information on any of them or if would like to confirm that a particular cat is available for adoption, please contact us at [email protected] or (614) 852-3521.
A few other housekeeping notes:

All cats residing at Eat, Purr, Love are adult cats and have come to us from The Capital Area Humane Society.  They have been spayed or neutered and have received preventative medical procedures by CAHS, such as vaccines, prior to arriving at the cat cafe.

We facilitate adoptions at the cat cafe using the same adoption screening application forms and process used by CAHS.  If you are coming to Eat, Purr, Love to find a new feline member to add to your family, please note that we typically do not finalize adoptions and send cats home on Saturdays and Sundays.  Once an adoption application is approved, we will hold that cat for you until a time can be arranged to go over final paperwork and send your new cat home with you during the week. We can sometimes send cats home the same day on weekdays.

All cats must go home in a cat carrier.

All adoption fees and donations associated with the adoption are made payable to The Capital Area Humane Society by cash or check.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

The Capital Area Humane Society and many other local rescue organizations have adorable and adoptable cats and kittens that are currently waiting for Forever Families to make a love connection with them.
